Newington High School PlaySchool

Posted Date: 8/18/25 (10:38 AM)

Good morning, Newington Families.

The 2025-2026 PLAYSCHOOL Program is now accepting children between the ages of 2-5 years old in our special NHS Playschool Program.  Please note, we are NOT a preschool.  We do not follow a traditional preschool format.  Please see the attached document for registration details, and please read below so that you can get a sense of the type of program we offer at NHS for children aged 2-5.

This is a PLAYSCHOOL program which runs from the beginning of October through mid-January and then again from the first week of March through the end of May. We typically run three days a week for only 80 minutes a day (most parents stop reading at this point).  It's just enough time to drop off your child, get a Starbucks, go to the post office, and then pick up your child.

Drop-off times are typically Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:45 am and pick-ups at 10:55 am.
On Fridays, we typically do a drop off of 9:15 and pick up of 10:25 am (parents also stop reading at this point)

There will be weeks in which we do NOT have playschool or weeks in which our times will be different.  This is due to the fact that we are governed by the high school and the NHS's schedule.  Again, we are not a preschool.

We are a high school credit-bearing course entitled "Infant and Toddler Development" and "Early Childhood Development" in which high school students create themed lesson plans (that I approve) and then deliver the lesson on their assigned day, and the other high school students will support the Head Teacher that day.  The children will never be left alone.  I am always there as the certified teacher.

The program is for Newington residents only (or affiliated with Newington) and is for children aged two years and three months and older.  Your child does not need to be toilet-trained.

The cost is $200 TOTAL for the entire school year.  A $50 deposit is required to hold the spot.  The remaining balance will be collected before December 1, 2025.

Applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

1. Completed Registration Form (Linked in the Registration Letter)

2. Completed permission for Photography form (Linked in the Registration Letter)

3. A scanned and emailed copy of the most recent Dr form visit summary (for our school nurse)

4. $50 deposit.  If paying by check, please have it addressed to "NHS PLAYSCHOOL PROGRAM."

Thanks for reading.  I look forward to meeting many of you this upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Paul Salonia
