Summer Chromebook Letter

June 2026

Dear Students and Parents:

The 1:1 Chromebook Program has been a successful experience for the students in Newington Public Schools. Our learners quickly adopted the new technology and truly demonstrated learning that showcased creativity, innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving.  In order to enable the individual growth of our students, the district has decided to again allow our students in grades K through 11 the privilege of keeping the devices over the summer. It is the intent of the district that the devices could possibly be used for the following:

  • Complete appropriate work for the student’s summer packets

  • Inspire new learning, hone skills, complete research, and read online

  • Discover and explore the world of coding at www.code.org or www.tynker.com or www.pencilcode.net

As with any privilege, comes responsibility.  Therefore, over the course of the summer, students should charge Chromebooks when not being used and also make an attempt to turn them on every week.  As always, we encourage parents to monitor the use of devices by their student and keep chromebooks safely at home.

In case of warranty-covered or accidental damage to the device, parents may contact the Educational Technology Office at 860-665-8626 in order to set up a time and date to have the device evaluated and exchanged.  In the event of accidental damage, payment is required at the time of the visit.

In addition, if you are planning on transferring your student to a different district, please also contact the school office to return the device, case, and charger before June 22nd.  All devices that are not returned will be locked down, GPS tracking will be enabled, and the situation will possibly be turned over to the Newington Police Department.

Finally, in order to prepare students for a great start to the 2026-27 School Year, please help your student bring their clean, updated and charged chromebook and charger to school on the first day. The Educational Technology Office will also have additional hours of availability during the week before school begins to address any Chromebook issues.

Sincerely,
